2001 Season - Week 17
Mark’s Run Is Over, Marcus In Pole
After 2 consecutive Championship’s Mark failed to catch the leaders and with no players left the Papas Fritas Trophy will have a new home come Wednesday. Marcus has a 17 point lead over his Dad but Warrick Dunn is unlikely to play on Sunday Night leaving Chief needing 3 TD’s from Randy Moss on Monday Night to win the title by the slimmest of margins. Paul isn’t out of it requiring 13 points from Correll Buckhalter in an Eagles win on Sunday Night plus Chief scoring less than 18 and it’s Privitera’s Papas.
In The Drop Zone
Dave G sits a perilous 5 points above the drop zone, with 2 Sunday Night players (Mike Alstott and Todd Pinkston) still to play and Wayne is just 3 points clear with Shannon Sharpe to play on Monday Night. Either could fall as Cheryl is in the last remaining Conference spot but has kicker David Akers to play on Sunday and QB Elvis Grbac to play on Monday in a game The Ravens must win. For Phil, AP, and Aaron, despite competitive weeks it’s Conference football next year along with John Botten.
BUMS Play-Offs
The road to BUMSBowl VI starts here. There are no changes to the rules but to assist the new boys and remind the old here’s how this knock-out tournament works. It’s a head-to-head contest with highest scorer in each game going through. You must select one QB, one kicker and any FOUR outfield players to play within a budget of $7.5 million using the same player prices as the regular season. (See attached spreadsheet). You can change all players between each round and in each game no more than 2 players can appear in both teams. Please get your teams back to me by noon on Saturday so we can sort out any swaps needed. Whoever gets their team to me first gets first pick of players to swap, if necessary, so speed is of the essence. As always best qualifier plays worst and so on, so as it stands Marcus will play John Botten, Chief will play Aaron etc etc but a full schedule will be sent out on Thursday. Remember it is Seattle or Baltimore for the final wildcard spot. If scores are tied at the end of the games the tie-breaker is the player that scored latest in any game.
Champions
In the AFC the champs are Pittsburgh (Central @13-3) and New England (East 11-5) with bye weeks and Oakland (West 10-6) playing in the wildcard at home to NY Jets (10-6) or Seattle (9-7) if Baltimore (9-6) loses on MNF. Miami (11-5) will host Baltimore (if they win) or The Jets. In the NFC the champs are St Louis (West 14-2) and Chicago (Central 13-3) with bye weeks and Philadelphia (10-5) playing in the wildcard at home to Tampa Bay (9-6). Green Bay (12-4) will host San Francisco (12-4) in the other match-up.
